Montreal, Quebec radio station XWA broadcasts the first regularly scheduled radio programming in North America.

11.2.1920

In the United States, KDKA of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania starts broadcasting as the first commercial radio station. The first broadcast is the result of the U.S. presidential election, 1920.

1939

5.13.1939

The first commercial FM radio station in the United States is launched in Bloomfield, Connecticut. The station later becomes WDRC-FM.

1945

The BBC Light Programme radio station is launched for mainstream light entertainment and music.

1954

The National Negro Network is established with 40 charter member radio stations.
