Alcatraz Island becomes a United States federal prison.

The first civilian prisoners arrive at the Federal prison on Alcatraz Island.

1937

Theodore Cole and Ralph Roe attempt to escape from the American federal prison on Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay; neither is ever seen again.

1962

6.11.1962

Frank Morris, John Anglin and Clarence Anglin allegedly become the only prisoners to escape from the prison on Alcatraz Island.
